Hardeman County 4-H Members Compete

Four Hardeman County 4-H Members (L to R) Kaylee Bryant, Lucie Watkins, Steven Gibson and Anna Avery traveled to Knoxville on Tuesday, June 1 to compete in the TN 4-H State Meats Judging Contest and walked away as the Reserve Champion Team. There were a total of 34 contestants and 9 complete teams. The teams were asked to identify 30 retail cuts from beef, pork and lamb as well as place 5 judging classes that included Ribeye Steaks, Smoked Center Cut Ham slices, Pork Loin Chops, Whole Fresh Hams and Beef Short Loins.
There were awards given in several divisions. The individual and team placings are as follows: Judging classes individual placings: Kaylee Bryant 6th, Steven Gibson 7th, Anna Avery 14th, Lucie Watkins 23rd. The group placed 4th as a team. Retail ID individual placings were Kaylee Bryant 4th, Steven Gibson 6th, Lucie Watkins 10th, Anna Avery 15th. The group placed 2nd as a team. Reasons/Questions individual placings were Kaylee Bryant 7th, Steven Gibson 12th, Lucie Watkins 15th, Anna Avery 28th. The group placed 3rd as a team. Totals individually for overall scores were Kaylee Bryant 3rd, Steven Gibson 4th, Lucie Watkins 13th, Anna Avery 16th. The team was coached by 4-H Agent, Gary Rodgers. The team placed as runner-up at the Western Region contest back in March. Annalise Lucas also took part in the March contest. The team is still waiting on future trip plans which hopefully include a trip to Western National 4-H Roundup in Denver.
