Nelson Honored by Commission

Reverend Johnny Nelson, 83, was honored by the Hardeman County Commission on May 18 for “Outstanding Community Leadership to the People of Hardeman County.”
Prior to answering the call as a pastor, Nelson helped raise his four siblings after the death of his father, dropping out of school after eighth grade in order to take a job and earn money for the family.
A pastor for many years, Nelson is currently an elder at Zion Temple Worship Center in Bolivar.
For 23 years, Nelson has put up and given away jelly to the community.
“I make apple, red plum, and grape,” he explained. “And I give them away to everyone.”
