You will be hard pressed to find someone within the Whiteville city limits who loved the city more than William Sidney Woods. Woods passed away on April 30 and with that, Whiteville lost a man who fully supported its town, but will continue to benefit from the legacy he left behind.
   
Woods was Whiteville’s vice-mayor and a longtime member of the Whiteville Board of Alderman and although the position is not a highly paid one, Woods probably would have continued serving his community for free if asked.
