Riverkings hit more than $500,000 in donations

For those who follow the Mississippi Riverkings or have heard reports of their community service donations, it will come as no surprise that the hockey team has now donated more than $500,000 through their donor-advised fund at the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi during the 2014-15 season.
The Riverkings are the longest continually operating sports franchise in the greater Memphis area and is the minor league hockey team in the Southern Professional Hockey League and are located in Southaven, MS. The donations made from the team are to non-profit organizations and any non-profit organization can apply to receive a charitable donation from the RiverKings ReachOut Fund by applying to become the team’s MVP Non-Profit of the Night for one game during the 2015-16 season, or by participating in a ticket fundraiser on a night of their choice.
“The RiverKings have made charitable grants of over $500,000 through their Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi,” Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi President Tom Pittman said. “They have assisted more than 100 nonprofits that are making our region a better place to live, work and play- large organizations like St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the Boy Scouts, and smaller organizations like Heartland Hands Food Pantry and Stovall’s Sacrifice for Soldiers.”
The team raises funds for the non-profits through postgame jersey auctions, donations from fans, ticket sales and much more.
The RiverKings have been long standing supporters of the military as well as their local non-profit organizations.
