Middleton ladies win streak continues

The Middleton Lady Tigers win streak increased to 53 games with an easy 72-46 win at home against Riverside.
Riverside and Middleton were neck and neck in the first quarter, tied at 17-17, The Lady Tigers slowly pulled away in the second quarter and led by six points at the break before dominating the second half, leading by 19 points after the third quarter and 26 points by the end of the game for an  easy 72-46 win.
“We were a bit slow in the first half, but were able to settle down in the second half and put Riverside away, thanks to a great effort by Dakedra Mason,” Middleton head coach James Burkley said.
Mason led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Tyra Smith and Sequoya Warren with 13 points each, and Chelsey Perry with 11 points.
The Middleton ladies are now 17-0 (6-0 in District 15A).
The Middleton boys also had an easy win over Riverside, defeating them 96-59 on Tuesday.
The boys jumped out to an early lead, and held a 13 point advantage after the first quarter that jumped to 24 points at half time, 29 points after the third quarter and 37 points by the end of the game for the 96-59 win.
“We played well,” Burkley said. “We were able to cover their three point shooter, and our outside players rebounded the ball well.”
A total of six Tigers finished the game in double figures, Justin Morman led the way with 17 points, followed by Jacque Gibson and Marius Reaves with 14 points each, Montrez Jones and Tommie Polk with 13 points each, and Tylandrius Parks with 10 points.
Middleton’s record is now 13-4 (6-0 in District 15A).
The Tigers were scheduled to travel to Trinity Christian on Friday, Jan. 22. and host Martin Westview on Saturday, Jan. 23, but were both canceled due to weather. The game against Trinity will be played on Friday, Feb. 5, while the Westview game will not be rescheduled. Middleton was also set to host Jackson Christian School on Tuesday, Jan. 26. They will celebrate Homecoming on Friday, Jan. 29 against Madison. And will travel to West Carroll on Saturday, Jan. 30 for a 3 p.m., game, then travel to Adamsville on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
