Legendary Lance Russell honored at Jackson event
The United States Wrestling Association (USWA) paid tribute to Lance Russell, one of the most legendary wrestling commentators in the history of Championship Wrestling during a special show in his honor on Saturday night, October 24, at Oman Arena in Jackson.
Russell, 89, began his wrestling announcing career in 1959, and continued until 1989. In addition to hosting a weekly wrestling show on TV, he was also ring announcer at arena shows, and even at smaller venues such as Bolivar.
Saturday’s event featured several special guests from Memphis Wrestling’s heyday, including Dave Brown, who was his on air partner, Bill “Superstar” Dundee, Rocky Johnson, Koko B. Ware, Danny Davis and Jim Cornette.
