Bolivar ladies advance to regional tournament
The Bolivar Central Lady Tigers were two of three during last week's District 14AA tournament, finishing in third place and earning a spot in this week's Region 7AA Tournament.
Bolivar was able to play the first round at home, on Monday, Feb. 15, earning a 35-22 win over McNairy Central.
The game was mostly a defensive effort. McNairy managed to keep Bolivar bottled up in the first quarter, and led by five points going into the second quarter. Bolivar was able to take control in the second stanza and turned their deficit into a four point lead at the break. The second half was a defensive effort with neither team taking many shots. McNairy only managed four points in the second half, while Bolivar improved their lead to five points after the third quarter and 13 points by the end of the game for a 35-22 win.
“When your opponent holds the ball like McNairy did, it makes you question your own strategy, and it took us some time to get a rhythm going. A slower ball game is usually to McNairy's advantage,” Bolivar Head coach Rick Rudesill said. “Once we had a big enough lead we were able to slow down the game on our end as well and burn some time off the clock.”
Hailey Hardaway led the scoring with 13 points, and Alexius Futrell added 10 points.
