Bolivar Central Beats McNairy
Bolivar Central used a 26-point second quarter to beat McNairy Central 26-14 in a pivotal Region 7AAA contest on September 26 at R.A. Butler Field in Bolivar.
After a scoreless first quarter, Bolivar used a trick play as Corbrian Brown threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Jones after catching a lateral from Quarterback Noah Clayton with 9:49 left in the second quarter.
Another trick play doubled Bolivar’s lead as slot receiver Colton Mayfield took a handoff from Clayton and then threw back to Clayton for a 12-yard score to make the score 14-0 with 2:29 left in the half.
After a quick turnover from McNairy, Bolivar scored again 20 seconds later on a Clayton to Keaneal Polk 37-yard touchdown pass.
And while Bolivar then allowed a score from McNairy Central with 55 seconds left in the half to close the gap to 20-7, Brown took a short pass and turned it into an 84-yard score 11 seconds before the half.
McNairy Central scored the only points of the second half with 7:41 left in the third, but the Tigers managed to hang on for the win, giving them a game lead on both Ripley and McNairy Central for the fourth and final playoff spot. Photo by Heather Teubner.
