Middleton ends season with first region win in 14 years

The last time the Middleton Tigers won a regional contest was in 2001, but that came to an end on Friday, October 30, in Memphis with a 27-22 win over Booker T Washington.
“This was a huge win for us,” said Middleton head coach, Craig Harris. One of our goals at the beginning of the season was to win a region game.”
Booker T got on the board first, scoring eight points early in the first quarter, but Middleton bounced right back scoring twice in the first quarter, including once on a 16 yard pass from Keon Pipkin to Trae Anderson, and later in the quarter on a 45 yard run from Pipkin. In the second quarter, Pipkin hit Bradley Sullivan on an eight yard pass to give Middleton a 20-8 lead at the break. Booker T scored twice in the second half, once in the third quarter, and again with about one minute left in the fourth quarter to give them a 22-20 lead. That is when Pipkin and Anderson went to work going 80 yards to score with only 16 seconds left on the clock. Pipkin hit Anderson for a 60 yard pass, and then hit him again for five yards for the score and the win, 27-22.
“I am glad it was Keon and Trae that made those plays at the end,” Harris said. “It was a great way not only for us to end the season but for Trae and Keon to end their careers. Keon ended the season with close to 1500 yards passing, and is one of the top three passers in school history.”
Middleton finished the game with 369 yards in total offense, including 144 yards rushing and 225 yards passing. Pipkin was top rusher with 17 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown. He was also 9-19 passing for 225 yards. Anderson was top receiver with four receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Jonathan Howser had two receptions for 65 yards, and Sullivan had three catches for 42 yards and one touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, Middleton held Booker T to 386 wards, including 197 yards rushing, and 89 yards passing.
Middleton ends their season with a record of 3-7 (1-4 in Region 8A)
“Hopefully we can build on this for next season,” said Harris. The only goal we did not meet this year was to make it to the playoffs.”
