Train Derails Near Pocahontas

A Norfolk Southern train derailed around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening near the Hardeman and McNairy line in the Pocahontas area.

According to Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen, fifteen of the train’s seventy-five railcars left the track, but there were no injuries nor public safety concerns as the rail cars were empty at the time and not carrying any hazardous materials.

Doolen confirmed that a cleanup process was underway Monday and was completed by Tuesday afternoon.
