Luttrell delivers message to officials: Serve the people

Elected and appointed officials from across the county were joined by emergency responders on Friday, January 2, for a prayer breakfast to begin the new year. Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell was the guest speaker and challenged the officials to follow three guiding principles that Luttrell said he follows on a daily basis: Remember the importance of treating people civilly and with respect, integrity and listen to a diverse range of options.

"I take the term 'public servant' to be precisely what it means. We are servants. We're servants of the people. We have to respect the will of the people. We don't necessarily have to agree with the input that we receive from our citizens, but we certainly owe all our citizens the respect they deserve," said Luttrell.

We'll have complete coverage of the event in next week's Bulletin-Times.

"Often times confidence and pride will manifest into cockiness and entitlement, where you once again lose touch." - Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell
