Optimism at Bolivar General
Help may be on the way for Bolivar General Hospital from the Tennessee Legislature, and Bolivar General may be helping themselves as well.
“This is all good news. This is a concentration on small rural hospitals to keep moving,” said Bolivar General Hospital Administrator Ruby Kirby. “I am really concerned about a ‘healthcare desert,’ and in case of an emergency, if you don’t have local hospitals or emergency rooms, people can die.”
Legislation to support Tennessee’s rural hospitals so they can continue to foster a greater quality of care in the state’s rural communities is advancing in the General Assembly. The Tennessee Rural Hospital Transformation Act of 2018, sponsored by Senator Bo Watson (R-Hixson) and Representative Kelly Keisling (R-Byrdstown), would help struggling hospitals develop economic plans to ensure they are financially viable and continue to provide needed healthcare services.
