Grand Junction continues battle against blight

One item of business at the Grand Junction September board meeting involved the efforts to bring the old school site into compliance with the city’s ordinance regulations.
The city’s attorney are given the opinion that the city has the authority to remedy the ordinance violations, and all costs incurred by the city contracting the work to be done will be attached to the owner’s property tax bill and collected in the same manner as the taxes. The city has begun the clean-up process by bush-hogging the grass and removing grown-up brush on the property.  The city continues to move forward in line with the state statutes. Mayor Lane stated there is likelihood additional maintenance will be necessary. Further action could be taken as required for the safety and health of citizens.
