Memorial Day originated in 1868. Originally it was a day when Union veterans decorated the graves of the Civil War dead with flowers.
Approximately 50 people attended as American Legion Post 198 held its ninth annual Memorial Day program in Middleton.
“We honor them with our services, we honor them with our legacies, we honor them with our prayers,” Jim Cordes, U.S. Marine who served in Afghanistan said.
