DeBerry Added as New Commissioner

Russell DeBerry of Hornsby was elected county commissioner to represent District 7 in Hardeman County in a process that took three votes to complete during the November 19 meeting of the Hardeman County Commission.
DeBerry outlasted Will Ross and Mack Carter for the position that will fill out the a portion of the remainder of the term of Bobby Doyle, who resigned in October to concentrate on his newly appointed position as Hardeman County Schools Interim Superintendent.
The first vote ended with DeBerry gaining seven votes, with Ross and Carter both getting four votes. A run-off between Ross and Carter ended with Ross winning 10-5. The final tally to decide who would take the seat went 11-4 in favor of DeBerry.
DeBerry will serve until August, at which time a commissioner will be selected to fill out the remaining two years of Doyle’s term. Petitions to run for the District 7, Position 1 spot are due at the Hardeman County Election Commission December 12.
