City Happy with EMS Changes

A year after getting their own ambulance service for the City of Bolivar, provided by West Tennessee Healthcare, Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic is pleased with the results.

“I am proud of the relationship that we have established with West Tennessee Healthcare and Medical Center EMS,” said McTizic. “They genuinely care for the citizens of Bolivar and strive to provide great medical care for our residents.”

A controversial move at the beginning of 2022 has netted better service that has also helped the county, according to a statistical report from the first year, with ninety calls outside of Bolivar in county areas being taken care of by the provider.

In 2022, West Tennessee Healthcare responded to 3,046 calls and made 2,512 transports.

The stats also pointed to fast service from Bolivar General Hospital and both locations in Jackson (Jackson Madison General and Jackson Madison General North) as turnaround times averaged less than 26 minutes for all three facilities, getting the ambulances headed back to Bolivar quickly, by industry standards.

Response times also improved during the year as an average of eight minutes fifty-six seconds from reception of call to arrival at address in the city in the first quarter went down to seven minutes thirty-eight seconds in the fourth quarter. Out of chute times were down to two minutes per call in the fourth quarter as well.

Mayor McTizic said the alliance has turned out to be a good one.

“I look forward to continuing our partnership with them well into the future.”
