According to a preliminary report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol; Charles Burgess, 47, of Whiteville, was texting when his Ford Explorer drifted into the on-coming lane of Highway 100 and was struck head on by a gravel truck. Burgess was killed in the accident. The fatal accident not only reminds motorists of the dangers of texting and driving, but brings to light the changes of notification policy for family members and how accident scenes are handled by law enforcement.

Texting causes fatal car accident

One Hardeman County man is dead after the Ford Explorer he was driving crashed on Thursday, September 11, at approximately 3:22 p.m., along the 1400 block of Highway 100 in Toone. According to the preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, investigators said Charles Burgess, 47, of Whiteville was texting while driving his SUV, when it drifted into the on-coming lane and struck a Mid-South Supply truck head on.
