Hall of Fame Wrestler Jerry Lawler spoke of the influence of Stahl on his life. Stahl, who taught Lawler at Tredwell High School in Memphis, sent his portfolio to Memphis State in the late 1960’s, helping him earn a scholarship that both kept him out of the draft and helped launch his wrestling career with the contacts he made as an artist.
