State Teacher of the Year

Bolivar Middle School teacher and Hardeman County STEM Coordinator Deana Sain was named the Tennessee Science Teachers Association Grades 5-8 Teacher of the Year.

“Deana Sain has been an extremely talented and compassionate educated for twenty-seven years, working assiduously to motivate her students to reach their full potential, both as scholars and as citizens,” read the proclamation delivered by Tennessee State Senator Page Walley.

“She is known for seeking opportunities to support teachers and maximize excellence in teaching and learning,” it continued. “Mrs. Sain serves as an inspiration to her colleagues and students alike.”

The award comes as Sain is realizing the first part of her goal: to create a STEM center for all of Hardeman County. But she is only getting started.

“When it’s my perfect vision,” she began. “I will have high schoolers doing work-based learning, working with some kids, maybe outside, helping with podcasting, eighth graders might be working in the recording studio and a I want a greenhouse.”

The site, located at 909 Pruitt Street, is open for schools in Hardeman County to visit on an appointment basis.
