Middleton Wins Substate

The Middleton Tigers outlasted Booker T. Washington 57-52 on March 6 to get back to the state tournament for the first time since 2011.

Middleton was led by Mr. Basketball finalist R.J. Robinson with 23 points, while C.J. Warren chipped in 14 points. Middleton trailed at the half 23-22, but outscored BTW 35-29 in the second half, behind 19 from Robinson.

Middleton will face East Robertson at 4:30 on March 15 in the first round of the TSSAA State 1A Basketball Championships, in a rematch of the 1992 Championship game. Middleton beat East Robertson 75-60 in 1992 as Steve Hamer led Middleton with 32 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Hamer was named MVP of the tournament.
