Bolivar Hardeman County Library Summer Reading 2023 continues June 29 with Community Day from 10:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. July 13 is Chickasaw Zoo from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Bolivar Library.  July 27 is the finale with 20 below rolled ice cream from 10:30  a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Bolivar Library.

The Middleton Civitan Club will host a BBQ Cookoff Saturday, June 24th at Roger’s Kitchen (formerly Southwind Restaurant). For further information, call 731-661-1848 or 731-609-8756.

In light of Men’s Health Awareness Month, the Hardeman County Community Health Center in Bolivar will host a free health screening for men on Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Appointments are preferred in advance, but exceptions may be given for walk-ins. The screening is a basic checkup with follow-up appointments to be scheduled.

The Bowden Hill C.M.E. Church family will be having their Annual “BACK IN THE DAY” event on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.   It will be held in the Fellowship Hall and on the outside stage of the church.  The speaker will be Pastor Lou Fields from New Prospect Community Church and the Mistress of Ceremonies will be Sylvia J. Jones from Memphis. There will be delicious soul food, gospel music, testimonial service, memorial service, door prizes, and games.  Please see any of the church members for tickets (donation of $10.00) for drawing of the DOOR PRIZE, a 50” flat screen color TV.  You don’t have to be present to win. We will be “Remembering our Roots” by adding more family pictures to the memorial wall.  Old equipment, tools and other collectible items will be on display for old time sake. The public is cordially invited to attend this historical service!! Feel free to dress casually with back-in-the-day attire.

The City of Bolivar presents gospel group Bringing Home Back Home with Fred Perry and 2nd Generation on Sunday, June 25 at 6 p.m. on the Bolivar Courthouse Square. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy free gospel music! Interested vendors should contact Carri Beth Rhea at (731) 658-2020.

The annual Red, White, and Bolivar Independence Day Celebration is June 30 with gates to open at 6 p.m. There will be live music featuring Katrina Anderson, food trucks, and fireworks.

The Southwest Human Resource Agency will participate in the 2023 Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability and reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service (not all prohibited bases apply to all programs). Meals will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis, at the following five sites, Douglas Community, Bolivar/ Hardeman County Boxing Club, Lee-Ola Roberts Library, and Simon Chapel Baptist. To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form (AD-3027), found online at http://www.ascr.usda.gov/complaint filing cust.html and at any USA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested I the form. The Hardeman County Arts Council will run DreamWorks Shrek The Musical JR. Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9, 2023, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 2 p.m.

GED classes are being offered weekly at the Grand Junction Public Library, located at 530 Madison Ave W in Grand Junction. It opens at noon Tuesday-Friday. For more information call 731-764-2716.

Bolivar Masonic Lodge #608 meets the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Grand Junction Community Walk every second Saturday of the month at the city park, if it rains it will be at the Old Cotton Gin.

Loaves and Fishes Food Bank needs all non-perishable food items. Call 609-2397 to drop off your donations. Canned fruit and protein items are most needed.
