BEA Community Calendar for the Week of 2/23/23

The Middleton Library Basic Tai Chi: Fridays in February @ 12:00. The Hardeman County Extension Agent will do an introduction to Basic Tai Chi. The classes will last one hour every Friday, through March 3rd. Gardening classes for adults and children will be March 16, 23, and April 13 and 20 at noon each day. Needed items are paper towel tubes, paper plates, paper towels, solo cups (16 and 20 oz.), bags of potting soil, seeds (especially tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, peppers, mustard, turnip greens, basil, marigolds, and dill), gardening hand tools, watering cans (regular and child size), and other gardening supplies. The Hardeman County Commission for Black History will have its annual February Black History Month Activities, with the theme of “Black Resistance”. The Annual County-Wide Worship Service on Sunday, February 26 at Union Hill Baptist Church in Whiteville. Reverend William Young (see photo) will be the guest speaker. These activities will aid in the Elizabeth W. Lake Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Loaves and Fishes Food Bank needs all non-perishable food items. Call 609-2397 to drop off your donations. Canned fruit and protein items are most needed.

The Bolivar Elementary Pancake Day will be February 25 from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bolivar Elementary School. Takeout only.

The Bolivar Hardeman County Library will have “Sassy Seniors” on February 28 at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call 731-658-3436.

Rockland Road with Small Shack will come to the Hardeman County Arts Council April 8 at 7:00 p.m.

The Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce will host a Women in Business Luncheon April 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bolivar Municipal Building at 211 N. Washington Street in Bolivar. Tickets are $25 for chamber members and $30 for non-members. Call Vickie at 731-658-6554.

The Hardeman County Arts Council will host Magician and Illusionist Braden Foster May 13th, 2023 at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday, April 10 and can be purchased online at www.hcactn.org or at the door.

GED classes are still being offered weekly at the Grand Junction Public Library, located at 530 Madison Ave W in Grand Junction. It opens at noon Tuesday-Friday. For more information call 731-764-2716.

Bolivar Masonic Lodge #608 meets the 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Grand Junction Community Walk every second Saturday of the month at the city park, if it rains it will be at the Old Cotton Gin.

The Warrior Center in Bolivar on North Water Street needs donations of men’s hygiene products like bar soap, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes; Men’s clothing like shirts, pants, shoes, socks, and underwear; cleaning supplies like dish soap, multipurpose cleaners, bleach, laundry soap, fabric softener, window cleaner, air fresheners, Lysol disinfectant, Comet, Ajax, paper towels, and Pinesol; Vehicles in good running condition, preferably multi-purpose vans (a receipt will be provided with tax id for donation purposes) notebook paper, spiral notebooks, ink pens, Bibles, computers, tools, and other household items.
