Williams Inducted into TSSAA Hall of Fame

Former Bolivar Central Basketball Coach Marvin Williams was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame on April 1
Williams coached boys and girls teams beginning in 1959; coached at Morris Chapel, Ramer, McNairy Central, and Bolivar Central; coached seven teams to the TSSAA State Tournament; Bolivar girls’ finished runner-up in 1976 and were state champions in 1977 (Class AA), and in 1978 (Class AAA); nominated for National Coach of the Year in 1978; coached on collegiate level at Jackson State Community College and Austin Peay State University; retired in 1990.
Marvin Williams began his athletic career at Whiteville High School where he averaged 25 points per game. He was educated at Freed-Hardeman College, Bethel College and Murray State University.
In January of 2016, the Hardeman County Commission voted unanimously to honor former Bolivar Central Coach Marvin Williams by naming a two-mile portion of Old Highway 64 in Hardeman County “Marvin Williams Highway.”
Williams is already a member of the Bolivar Central Hall of Fame.
