Tigers Beat Lions

Bolivar Central quarterback Carson Howell threw for 203 yards and a touchdown while running for 114 yards and three touchdowns as Bolivar beat Scotts Hill 28-21, scoring with 28 seconds left to seal the victory.

For Head Coach Hayden Williams, it came down to his team believing.

“It was about trusting each other and putting it in the hands of #13,” he said.

Bolivar struggled in the first half, giving up to long touchdown runs of 73 and 55 yards as well as a kickoff return for a touchdown to trail 21-12 at the break.

Bolivar held Scotts Hill scoreless in the second half while scoring twice in the fourth quarter to get their fifth win of the season, the most since 2017. Bolivar will have a chance to have a winning record for the first time since 2017 next week against Liberty, although they have been eliminated from the playoffs. Bolivar is the only team in Class AAA that will have a winning record and not make the postseason, while ten teams in Class AAA will take a losing record to the playoffs.

Howell’s 114 yards on the ground gives him 1,017 for the season, the first 1,000-yard rushing season for a Bolivar player since Corey Brown ran for 1,503 yards in 2017.
