Teams Vie for County Championships

Whiteville and Middleton Middle School teams qualified for the Area championships with opening round victories in the Hardeman County Middle School Championships at Middleton on December 5.

The winners from December 5 will play for the championships of the county on December 8, but the top two teams from each tournament qualify for the area championships.

The Whiteville Girls began the night with a 35-23 win over Hornsby, overcoming a five-point first half deficit with a 14-1 run in the third quarter. Emily Giles led the Lady Lions with 14, while London Lindsey led Hornsby with 14 points.

The Whiteville Boys beat Hornsby 47-40 on the strength of a 16-6 first quarter lead. Josiah Woods had 18, while Jacob Mathena had 15 for Whiteville. Kaynon Swift led Hornsby with 21 points.

Middleton’s Girls got 7 points from Lync Perry in the Lady Tigers’ 31-7 win over Toone, who due to illness had only four players. Adrian Skelton had 7 for the Lady Bobcats.

Middleton’s Boys saw Savion Hoyle score a game high 18 points for the Tigers in their 46-16 win.
