Middleton overtakes Bolivar for first baseball county championship in school history

Thursday afternoon, April 9, the sun was shining and the baseball diamond was bone dry offering a perfect setting for what proved to be a historic county championship game. The extremely wet spring had all but ruined spring baseball for the two teams who watched their schedules slashed as Middleton canceled many games and Bolivar was only able to play two going into the championship.
Jackson took the mound for the Middleton Tigers and worked quickly, keeping the ball low, sat the visitors down after the top of the first with a ground out to short, a rare ground out to a shallow right fielder, and a strike out to finish the top of the first.
The home team came out swinging as the first four batters, Keller, Caicedo, Dixon, and Jackson all put the bat on the ball (with base hits from Caicedo, Dixon, and Jackson) to see Jackson and Dixon score and Middleton take the early lead 2-0.
In the top of the second, Bolivar retaliated with quick bats that saw a single and a double to left,  as Bolivar got one back to bring the score to 1-2.
Middleton no doubt anticipated another big inning as three walks saw the bases loaded with one out and the top of the lineup at bat, but a fly out to center and quick throw behind the runner on second earned a lucky double play that saw Bolivar through the second still only one run behind.
