Middleton ladies win Dyersburg tournament

The Middleton Lady Tigers win streak continued last week, as they won three straight games on their way to taking first place in the Dyersburg Lady Trojans Tournament, defeating  Union City 55-30 on Monday, December 28, beating Munford 45-34 on Tuesday, December 29, and then defeating  Lausanne  60-44 on Wednesday, December 30.
“I am really pleased with the way we played as a team this entire tournament,” said Middleton head coach James Burkley.
In Monday’s action against Union City, Middleton jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Lady Tigers led by 15 points after the first quarter, 23 points at the break, and 25 points after the third quarter and the final buzzer for a 55-30 win.
“We played well defensively, and wound up with 19 steals and 19 offensive rebounds,” coach Burkley said.
Chelsey Perry led the way with 17 points, followed by Dakedra Mason with 11 points and Tyra Smith added 10 points.
In Tuesday’s game against Munford, Middleton once again jumped out to a quick lead and had a 14 point advantage after the first quarter. Munford bounced right back and cut Middleton’s lead down to just two points by half time. Middleton began to reclaim the momentum in the second half, and led by eight points after the third quarter and 11 points by the end of the game for a 45-34 win.
“Munford played well defensively in the second quarter and made a game out of it,” coach Burkley said.
Chelsey Perry led all scorers with 16 points followed by Sequoya Warren with 12 points.
In Wednesday’s championship game against Lausanne, the Lady Tigers struggled a bit in the first quarter and found themselves in a four point deficit, but they took command in the second quarter and led by seven points at the break, 14 points after three quarters and 16 points by the end of the game for a 60-44 win.
“We had a balanced scoring effort, and played well as a team,” Coach Burkley said.
Tyra Smith led the way with 13 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Cherelle Jones, Dakedra Mason and Sequoya Warren with 12 points each.
Middleton’s record is now 13-0 and they are ranked nu mber one in the state. (2-0 in District 15A) Their win streak is now up to 48 games. Middleton boys, who did not play are ranked number eight in the state.
Middleton was set to travel to Madison Academic on Tuesday, January 5. They will host Adamsville on Friday. January 8, and will travel to Scotts Hill on Friday, January 15.
Bolivar Central
The Bolivar Central Tigers played in the in the Larry Ransom Holiday Classic at Fayette Ware High School on Monday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 29, where the boys lost to Craigmont 62-44 and the girls lost to Horn Lake MS 54-44 on Monday. The boys lost to Ripley 68-45 while the girls defeated Ridgeway 38-31 on Tuesday.
The Bolivar boys record is now 1-11, while the girls are 6-6.
 Bolivar was set to travel Westview on Tuesday, January 5, and will travel to Jackson South Side on Friday, January 8 before Hosting McNairy Central on Tuesday, January 12.
