
Middleton ladies keep win streak going
The Middleton Lady Tigers, ranked number one in the state increased their win streak to 50 games after a pair of wins last week, defeating Madison 58-33 on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 5, then beating Adamsville 48-24 at home on Friday, Jan. 8.
In Tuesday’s action, the Middleton ladies struggled a bit early on, and were down by one point after the first quarter, and slowly began to turn things around in the second quarter, leading by four points at the break. The Lady Tigers turned up the heat in the second half, taking an 18 point lead after the third quarter and 25 points by the end of the game.
“There were some mental mistakes early in the game and we played our bench for most of the first half,” Middleton head coach James Burkley said. “We went back to our starters in the second half and were able to put the game away.”
Tyra Smith led the way for Middleton with 19 points, followed by Sequoya Warren with 15 points.
Friday’s game against Adamsville was a defensive effort for Middleton. The Lady Tigers allowed only 24 points in the game,including just eight points in the second half. Middleton led by four points after the first quarter, 10 points at half time, 16 points after the third quarter and 24 points by the end of the game for a 48-24 win.
“We got into some foul trouble early on and had to go to our bench a little earlier than usual,” Burkley said. “We played better defensively in the second half and were able to pull away.”
Sequoya Warren led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Alexis Pledge with 12 points.
Middleton’s record improves to 15-0 (4-0 in District 15A).
The Middleton boys, ranked seventh in the state also won both of their games last week, defeating Madison on the road 67-40 last Tuesday, then beating Adamsville at home on Friday 98-73.
