Middleton finishes District in first place gets automatic entry in regional tourney

The Middleton Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a perfect record, defeating Scotts Hill at home, 45-30, on Tuesday, Feb. 8, then ended the regular season with a 69-34 win at Riverside on Friday, Feb. 12.
In Tuesday’s home finale, Middleton got control early on and never let up. The Lady Tigers led by five points after the first quarter, six points at the break and after the third quarter, before putting the game away in the final stanza with a 15 point lead for a 45-30 win.
“Scotts Hill came out and played really well. They slowed things up for much of the game. We were finally able to speed things up and put them away in the fourth quarter,” said Middleton Head Coach James Burkley.
Sequoya Warren led the way with 12 points, followed by Chelsey Perry with 10 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks. Dakedra Mason added 10 points.
In Fridays game at Riverside, Middleton jumped out to a big lead and never let up. The Lady Tigers led by 12 points after the first quarter, 15 points at halftime, 23 points after the third quarter, and  35 points by the end of the game for an easy 69-34 win.
“We played great defense, especially in the first, third and fourth quarters,” said Burkley.
Sequoya Warren led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Dakedra Mason with 17 points 10 rebounds four steals and four assists. Chelsey Perry added 10 points 12 rebounds four steals and three blocks.
The Middleton ladies finished the regular season with a record of 25-0 (12-0 in District 15A), and their win streak currently stands at 60 games.
The Middleton boys also finished the regular season on a positive note with an 84-58 win at home over Scotts Hill on Tuesday, Feb. 9, followed by a 68-54 win at Riverside on Friday, Feb. 12.
In Tuesday’s action, Scotts Hill and Middleton stayed close in the first quarter, and the Tigers held a four point lead at the end of the quarter which was increased to 16 points at halftime. The lead was increased to 26 points after the third quarter, and stayed that way in the fourth quarter for an 84-58 win.
