Errors costly in Bolivar loss

The Bolivar Central Tigers traveled to Jackson to take on the South Side Hawks on Friday, September 11, and for the second week in a row, came up short.
The two teams were neck and neck in the first quarter. The Hawks needed just three plays to get on the board first, but Bolivar responded just three plays later on a 14 yard TD from Dreke Lewis to tie the game at 6-6. Moments later the Hawks scored again, and with the two-point conversion took a 14-6 lead. Bolivar scored again in the first on a three yard run by Lewis, but failed to make the two-point conversion, and trailed 14-12 after one quarter.  The Hawks scored again early in the second quarter, but again Lewis provided the answer, this time on a 22 yard run, but that was all the offense Bolivar could muster. South Side scored once more in the half, and held a 27-18 advantage going into the locker room. The Hawks would score twice in the third quarter, and walked away with a 39-18 win.
Penalties were costly for Bolivar. They were penalized 11 times for 92 yards and had one turnover. Bolivar managed 254 yards in total offense, including 81 yards on the ground and 173 yards in the air, while giving up 475 yards including 200 yards on the ground and 275 yards passing.
Bolivar head coach Woodrow Lowe was not available for comment this week.
Bolivar is now 2-2 (1-1 in Region 8AAA). The Tigers will return home on Friday, September 18, to face Memphis Sheffield. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
