Dizzy Dean Girls Get Wins at World Series

Bolivar’s Dizzy Dean Softball teams brought home three top five finishes at the Dizzy Dean Softball World Series at Greenbrook Park in Southaven, MS, July 5-8.
The top finishers were the 10U squad, who won their first two games enroute to a third place finish. The team, coached by Justin Campbell, beat Germantown 14-1 and Hernando 10-6 before falling to eventual champion Walker County and second place finisher Yazoo City on the final day.

The 8U squad began the tournament with two losses on Saturday, but rebounded for two wins on Sunday and an eventaul 5th place finish out of a total of fifteen teams.
The Sunday wins were both by one run, beating Yazoo City 5-4 and coming back in the final inning to beat Batesville 10-9.

The most compelling story of the tournament belonged to the 6U team, who won a pair of games, eventually losing to Southaven in a game that went four extra innings in the sweltering heat. Adding to the complication of the three hour extra inning affair was that it was the third game of the day for the team. In all, the 6U squad played five games in two days.
Tied at 8-all through five innings, Bolivar scored one in the sixth, four in the seventh, and five in the eighth, only to have Southaven tie the score at the end of each frame. After a 20-minute cool-down break agreed on by both teams, Bolivar failed to score in the top of the ninth and fell 19-18.
