Correy Brown returns a kickoff for Bolivar

Covington spoils Bolivar’s home opener

The Bolivar Central Tigers' hopes of a perfect season went down the Drain on Friday night, September 4, at home when the Covington Chargers came to town and took care of business with a 34-7 win.
Bolivar had a chance to do some damage early on when they recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff, but were unable to take advantage of the great field advantage. The Chargers got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead going into the second stanza, then scoring again a little more than three minutes into the second quarter for a 12-0 lead. Bolivar got on the board less than two minutes later when Trey Lowe connected with Elijah Walton on a 31 yard pass. Jace Molina’s extra point cut the deficit to 12-7, but that was as close as the Tigers would get. Covington scored once more in the second for an 18-7 lead going into the locker room. The Chargers kept Bolivar out of the end zone in the second half, while scoring seven points in the third quarter and 10 points in the fourth quarter for a 27 point 34-7 win.
“We were beaten by a better team,” Bolivar head coach Woodrow Lowe said. “They were better prepared and our youthfulness was exposed.”

Top rushers for Bolivar were Dreke Lewis, who had 13 carries for 43 yards, and Correy Brown who carried the ball eight times for 42 yards. Bolivar Quarterback Trey Lewis was 10 -19 in the air.
