Bolivar Wins Middle School Tournament

With victories over Hornsby and Middleton Middle School, Bolivar Middle School defended their Hardeman County Middle School Baseball Championship on April 6, beating Hornsby 6-1 in the final game at Middleton.
“It was a tough win, a good win,” said Head Coach Jerry Rhodes. “They’re a very good team and we were lucky. I’m very proud of my guys to get the win.”
Bolivar, who never trailed in either game, jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Hornsby scored to make it 3-1 after 3 ½ innings of play. Bolivar then scored three in the bottom of the fourth and held off a late rally by Hornsby in the fifth. Hornsby left six runners on base in five innings, including the bases loaded in the fourth.
In the opening game of the tournament, Hornsby defeated Middleton 6-2. Bolivar beat Middleton 15-0 in game two.
The victory gives Bolivar seven wins in the 10 years the tournament has been contested. Middleton has won the tournament twice in 2017 and 2015, while Hornsby’s lone victory came in 2016.
