Bolivar splits final two regular season games

The Bolivar Central Tigers ended their regular season last week, splitting a pair of road games, defeating Chester County 41-38 on Monday, Feb. 8, then losing to Fayette Ware 62-34 on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
In Monday’s game, Bolivar and Chester County were neck and neck in the first quarter, and Bolivar led by four points going into the second quarter and 11 points at half time. Bolivar struggled in the second half, and finished the half with just seven points. Bolivar’s lead was cut to six points after the third quarter and three points by the end of the game, but they managed to hold on for the 41-38 win.
“We should not have won this game,” Bolivar Head Coach Rick Rudesill said. “We only scored two points in the third quarter and five points in the fourth quarter for a total of seven points in the half, and that does not normally win games. A good first  half saved us.”
Cornelius Polk led Bolivar with 13 points including three 3-pointers. Fabion Cross added 11 points including two 3-pointers, and Demarkus Murrell added 10 points.
In Tuesday’s game against Fayette Ware, Bolivar never could get going. The Tigers failed to score in the first quarter, and Fayette Ware led by 12 points going into the second quarter and 14 points at the break. Bolivar’s deficit increased to 20 points after the third quarter and 28 points by the end of the game for a 62-34 loss.
“We were able to play with them a little while in the second half, but Fayette Ware ran away with it in the fourth quarter,” Rudesill said.
Fabian Cross led the effort with 11 points.
Bolivar finished the regular season with a record of 4-20 (3-7 in District 14AA).
The Bolivar Lady Tigers also split their final two games of the regular season, losing on the road to Chester County 57-37 on Monday, Feb. 8, then defeating Fayette Ware in Somerville, 69-57 on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
In Tuesday’s match up, the ladies could never get anything going. They found themselves in a five point hole after the first quarter that increased to 12 points at the break, 14 points after the third quarter and 20 points by the end of the game for a 57-37 loss.
