Bolivar softball goes out swinging to South Side on Senior Night loss
Bolivar held even with South Side, matching them each inning until the sixth, where Southside took home the win after earning unmatched runs in the sixth and seventh. Two seniors, Leah Parks and Becca Fulghum, lead all batters in both dug-outs with two hits each.
South Side earned its first run after Westbrook reached first from a walk then stole second. Blackwell kept the ball low during the next two at bats to avoid the sac fly, but two ground balls saw Westbrook advanced to third, and then home, to see the Hawks score the first run of the night with no hits.
Bolivar’s Turner hit the ball hard to open the 1st inning with a fly-out to center Fulghum was hit by a pitch and Fulghum went on to reach second and the third on two passed balls during a tough at bat from Jimmerson who fouled three before reaching second on a line drive error by the second baseman, earning an RBI by driving home Fulghum in the process. Bolivar hit a fly ball to left to end the inning matching South Side’s one run and no hits for what would be a standard of the game.
The second inning looked like more of the first as South Side grounded out to first and 3rd to retire the first two batters. South Side would go on to have a big two-out rally that included a single, a double, an error and two walks, giving the visitors a 5-1 lead.
