Bolivar gets a pair of wins on ladies night

The Bolivar Central Tigers were finally able to get back in the win column with a 75-63 win over McNairy Central, followed by a 58-48 win by the Lady Tigers over the McNairy Central ladies for a successful ladies night on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
In an unusual twist, the Bolivar boys played first, and started out strong against McNairy Central. The Tigers led by 11 points after the first quarter, but that lead was cut to six points by halftime. Bolivar increased their lead to 7 points after the third quarter and finished the game with a 12 point 75-63 win.
“I thought it was a good thing for the boys to play first,” Bolivar Head Coach Rick Rudesill said. “It was fun to do something a little different.”
Demarkus Murrell led the way with 18 points, followed by David Terburgh with 13 points. Fabion Cross and Cornelius Polk added 10 points each.
“This was a good team effort and we shot well at the free throw line,” Rudesill said.
Following the boys game, Bolivar Central honored the 1977 and 1978 Ladies State Basketball Championship teams by presenting the teams with large photos that will be hung over the girls locker room.
The Bolivar ladies took the court next, playing McNairy Central in a very tight game, especially in the first half. Bolivar led by four points after the first quarter, seven points at the break, nine points after the third quarter and 10 points by the end of the game for a 58-48 win.
“Kenylsha Bryant really carried early on. She had 13 first half points,” Rudesill said.
Bryant led the way for Bolivar with 15 points. Kamya Brown and Alexius Futrell added 11 points each.
Bolivar played host to Chester County on Friday, Jan. 15. The boys won 76-47, and the ladies lost 88-64.
On Saturday, Jan. 16, the Tigers traveled to Haywood County, where the boys lost a 67-64 heart breaker, while the ladies lost 75-52.
The Bolivar boys record is now 3-14 (2-1 in District 14A), The ladies are now 7-10 (1-2 in District 14A).
Bolivar was set to travel to Lexington on Tuesday, Jan. 19. They will play host to Fayette-Ware on Friday, Jan. 22. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
