Bolivar falls to Lexington
The Bolivar Central Tigers had a short week, thanks to the threat of bad weather, but lost their only game of the week on Tuesday, Jan. 19, falling to Lexington 71-55 on the road, while the Bolivar Lady Tigers lost to Lexington 64-57.
The Bolivar boys had a bit of trouble in the first quarter and found themselves with an eight point deficit, but they bounced back and were only behind by one point at the break. At that time Lexington took control of the game and led by 14 points after the third quarter and 16 points by the end of the game for a 71-55 win.
“We had a good second quarter, but Lexington came out hot in the second half, shooting seven three pointers in the third quarter alone, and 13 for the night,” Bolivar Head Coach Rick Rudesill said.
Cornelius Polk led the effort with 22 points followed by David Terburgh with 10 points.
Bolivar’s record is now 3-15 (2-2 in District 14 AA)
The Bolivar ladies played Lexington close in the first half, and were down by only one point after the first quarter and 2 points at halftime. Lexington took control in the second half and led by four points in the third quarter and seven points by the final buzzer for a 64-57 win.
“We struggled defensively in the second half, and just could not stop Katlyn Kelly. She scored 25 points for Lexington, including 14 points in the fourth quarter,” said Rudesill.
Kenylsha Bryant led the effort for Bolivar with 17 points, followed by Hailey Hardaway with 16 points.
The Bolivar ladies are now 7-11 (1-3 in District 14AA)
Bolivar’s scheduled home game with Fayette-Ware on Friday, Jan. 23 was canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. They were scheduled to host Jackson South Side on Tuesday, Jan. 26. and will travel to McNairy Central on Friday Jan. 29. then travel to Chester County on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
