Bolivar Central falls to Melrose
The Bolivar Central Tigers lost more than just a game to Melrose, the 38-13 loss on Friday, October 16, at home, cost the Tigers a shot at a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
“The kids did not understand how big this game really was,” Bolivar head coach Woodrow Lowe said. “A win against Melrose would have given us a home playoff game.”
Bolivar’s defense had a tough time stopping Melrose. The Tigers scored on their first possession, but allowed Melrose to score twice in the first quarter and once in the second quarter to take a 24-7 lead at the break. Both teams scored once in the third quarter, and Melrose scored again in the fourth quarter to put an exclamation point on their 38-13 win.
Both teams moved the ball well, and finished the game with more than 400 yards in total offense.
“We just could not stop them,” Lowe said. “They were much faster than us. We moved the ball well, but had a hard time punching it in.”
The loss gives Bolivar a record of 4-2 (3-2 in Region 8AAA). The Tigers will celebrate Homecoming, and play host to Hamilton on Friday Night, October 23. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
