BCHS BASEBALL HIRES BARNES

For only the third time in the last forty years, Bolivar Central has a new baseball coach.
And for the second time in a row they choose a player who played for the coach he is replacing.
Such was the case at Bolivar hired Clint Barnes to take over the baseball program.
“My biggest goal is to help these boys become men. To go out into the real world, because that is way bigger than any ballgame,” he said. “If I’m not helping them with that, I’m not doing my job.”
Barnes, who played for retiring coach Mark Fulghum, said it was an honor to find out from his former coach. Barnes played for Fulghum from 2005-2008. Twelve years later, he replaces him.
“It was very special to me to have Coach Fulghum come and tell me I got the job,” he said.
Coach Fulghum got the job in 1996 under mostly the same circumstances, taking over 11 years later from his coach, Keith Cabanaw.
Barnes said his immediate plan was to have tryouts and help his team understand his philosophy.
“We’re going to be a scrappy ballclub that never gives up,” he explained. “We’re going to play small ball, because I really believe in it.”
