All-Star Game Raises Funds for Scholarship

Area Six middle school basketball players came together on February 23 for the 2nd Annual Area 6 All-Star Games, but this year the games took on a new meaning.
Proceeds from the attendance will go to fund the JaVarrie “JoJo” Robertson Memorial Scholarship, with six winners selected from public school attendees in Hardeman County.
According to the release, two winners will be selected from high school seniors pursuing a two-year, four-year, or technical degree program at an accredited college, university or technical school and four winners will be selected from eighth grade students from Hardeman County who will begin their freshman year in 2017-2018.
A recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or a community member and a essay from the application must be submitted. The essay will need to be a 250 word essay for the upcoming freshman or a 500 word essay for high school seniors. Essay topics are detailed on the application, which is available by contacting Antonio Scott at (901) 612-0559.
The event featured girls games and boys games at Bolivar Middle School.
