Still Hoping for a Season
The Bolivar Lions Club baseball and softball hopes of starting the 2020 season on April 21 may have been dashed, but hopes still remain kids can play ball this summer, even it is a bit late.
“We’re still hoping to play,” said Baseball Commissioner Bobby Hensley. “We’ve still got time.”
Most seasons begin in late April and conclude the first week in June, but due to the COVID-19 virus, the season might be played as late as June or even July.
And although this may make Bolivar teams playing in the annual World Series, scheduled for July, a bit tough, it’s unlikely the rest of the country would be ready any quicker.
“In response to the Coronaviurs and Dizzy Dean Baseball and Softball, we recommend that you follow the decision of your local school board or health department. We will make any adjustments necessary to make your teams eligible for tournament play at the appropriate time,” reads the Dizzy Dean National website.
Dizzy Dean also announced the sanctioning date for leagues has been moved from April 15 to June 1.
