Maxwells Honored by City of Bolivar

The Bolivar City Council and the City of Bolivar honored Jimmy and Doug Maxwell at their regularly scheduled meeting on September 9.
City of Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic presented the pair with the following:
“On behalf of the citizens of Bolivar and the Bolivar City Council, I am honored to have the opportunity to recognize Jimmy and Doug Maxwell for their dedication and generous contributions made through their business and volunteerism shown by helping our community.
Maxwell’s Big Star has been a landmark in our community for over 50 years. It was founded by brothers James Malcolm and Everett Maxwell in March 1960. The grocery store itself has had a tremendous economic impact on our city and has provided much more to all than just being our local grocer. Through the kindness and generosity of the Maxwell family, they have helped sponsor many local events either monetarily or by donating food and drinks. Also, over the years, they have offered after school and weekend jobs for many of our youth. These jobs have helped students attain work ethic as they prepare for life’s journey.
Jimmy and Doug grew up working in the store then filled their fathers’ shoes. They have been devoted and compassionate business owners and our community has been touched and blessed by such a caring and empathetic family. In closing, we want to sincerely express our appreciation and say ‘Thank You’ for all you have done for us and our town and wish you both the absolute very best in your retirement.”
