City of Middleton Museum under consideration

Creating a museum for the city of Middleton was the topic of a Town Hall Meeting held at the city’s Community Center on Tuesday evening, March 8. Mayor Jackie Cox presided over the meeting attended by quite a few interested citizens.
Cox explained the Police Department Headquarters was moving into the old Middleton Bank Building. The building contains approximately 7,000 square feet. The police department will utilize half of the available space. This is being remodeled now for the department’s pending move. Site of a museum depicting the history of the city is one of the considerations for using the balance of the space.
“I think this is a very good idea,” said Middleton resident James Thurmond, a sentiment shared by his wife, Delores. This was the consensus shared by everyone expressing their feelings during the meeting.
Attendees began to offer suggestions for acquiring and displaying artifacts and documents. Other uses for museum were voiced. “We might build a conference room that could be used for such things as civic club meetings,” said Doug Henderson.
