Ripley, Miss benefit features legends and local wrestlers
Rodney Grimes, wrestler, owner and promoter of CWA Championship wrestling out of Corinth, MS has been involved in professional wrestling for most of his adult life, and his mother, Rosa Lee Grimes Abrell was right by his side all the way, so when she died after an extended illness back in January, Rodney decided to set up a special night of wrestling in her honor on Friday, March 11 in Ripley, MS to help raise money for her medical bills and funeral expenses.
“Mom loved wrestling and would be proud of all her friends in the wrestling business who came tonight to honor her,” Grimes said.
Some of the biggest and most legendary wrestlers of all time showed up, including “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant, Tracy Smothers, “The Outlaw” Don Bass, and “The Taskmaster” Kevin Sullivan along with several current superstars Rodney Mack and Buff “The Stuff” Bagwell. In addition, several up and coming wrestlers were on the card. Several other wrestlers were scheduled to appear but due to a conflicting event, a benefit for the Carl Perkins center in Henderson they were forced to cancel.
Two of the up and coming wrestlers, Brandon “The Flatliner” White and Jeremiah Miller, who wrestles under the name Jaxon Hawke, are from right here in Hardeman County, living in Saulsbury. White, who is originally from Milan has been wrestling about 2 and a half years.
