Kilgore explosion rocks Hardeman County
An explosion at Chemring Countermeasures (Kilgore) in Toone on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 26 was felt more than 20 miles away, but according to Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen caused little damage and no injuries.
“All the safety procedures worked as they were designed to do,” Doolen said. There were no injuries and only a small fire.”
Toone Fire Department responded to the call, which according to Toone Fire Chief Jack Santos came in at 4:23 p.m., with a total of 17 firefighters, not including the Bolivar Fire Department, who were on standby at Toone Baptist Church.
“The fire was already contained when we got on the scene, and we just let it burn itself out,” Santos said. “Everything was contained to one building, and there was no serious damage to the building. We were on scene for about three hours, mostly for safety purposes.”
