Middleton ladies continue winning streak

The Middleton Lady Tigers winning streak has now extended to 43 games after two more easy wins last week, defeating Jackson Central Merry (JCM) 66-14 on Tuesday, December 8 on the road, followed by a 57-20 win over Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) on Friday, December 11 at home.
In Tuesday’s action, Middleton jumped out to an early lead, and had a 16 point advantage after the first period, which was extended to 25 points at the break, 50 points after the third period, and 52 points by the end of the game for a 66-14 win.
Dakedra Mason led all scorers with 23 points, including four from 3 point range, followed by Chelsea Perry with 21 points. A total of nine Lady Tigers scored in the game.
“We jumped out to an early lead and gave JCM a lot of problems,” Middleton head coach James Burkley said. “This was another great opportunity to give our bench some quality playing time.”
Middleton’s strong play continued on Friday against TCA. The Lady Tigers once again jumped out to an early lead, with a seven point advantage after the first period, 18 points at the break, 27 points after three periods, and 37 points by the final buzzer for the 57-20 win.
Sequoya Warren led all scorers with 19 points followed by Dakedra Mason with 17 points.
“This was a great defensive effort for us,” Coach Burkley said. “I was pleased that we were able to hold TCA to just 20 points.”
Middleton’s record is now 8-0 (1-0 in District 15A)
The Middleton boys had a little tougher time of it, last week, but still managed to pull off two wins, beat JCM 76-57 on the road Tuesday, December 8, followed by a win at home against TCA, 81-73 on Friday, December 11.
In Tuesday’s action, The Tigers and JCM were neck and neck throughout the first half. Middleton led by just one point after the first period, and five points at the break. The Tigers were finally able to pull away in the second half, leading by 14 points after the third period, and 19 points by     the end of the game for a 76-57 win.
“A strong third period made the difference for us,” coach Burkley said.
Montrez Jones led the way for Middleton with 18 points, followed by Tylandrius Parks with 17 points, Justin Morman with 13 points and Tommie Polk with 12 points.
“This was a great overall team effort,” said coach Burkley.
Middleton faced a very tough opponent in TCA on Friday, but they managed to stay ahead most of the game. The Tigers led by 5 points after the first period and at the break. They were able to increase that lead to nine points after the third period, but gave up one point in the final stanza for the eight point 81-73 win.
“This was another balanced effort against a very good team,” coach Burkley said.
Justin Morman and Montrez Jones led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds each, while Tylandrius Parks added 15 points and Jacque Gibson added 13 points.
“This was Jacques’ first game back after suffering a broken hand,” coach Burkley said. “ He came off the bench and played well.”
Middleton’s record is now 7-3 (1-0 in District 15A)
The Tigers were set to host McNairy Central on Tuesday on Tuesday December15, and will travel to Jackson Christian School on Friday, December 15 before taking a break until after the first of the year.
