Bolivar City Council hires new city attorney
The Bolivar City Council unanimously voted to hire a new city attorney during their regular meeting on Tuesday, December 8, replacing Steve Hornsby, who resigned at the end of Nov., to take a job at a non-profit company in Memphis.
Steven W. Maroney, of Jackson, is a partner in the law firm of Teel and Maroney P.L.C., where he has been since 2003. He graduated from the University of Memphis in 1992, and passed his bar exam later that year. His experience in municipal law include being Madison County Attorney from 2012 to present, as well as being City Attorney for Three Way Tennessee from 2012 to the present.
“We are pleased to have Mr. Maroney as our new attorney and look forward to working with him,” Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens said.
Maroney was one of three candidates interested in the job. One was interviewed during the Nov. city council meeting, but council members wanted a chance to interview other candidates before making a selection. The third candidate got his resume in late and was never interviewed.
Maroney assumed his duties immediately after being hired, finishing out the December meeting.
