Middleton ladies continue winning
The Middleton Lady Tigers’ winning streak continued last week, after winning three games, beating Liberty 58-53 in Jackson on Tuesday, December 1, followed by a pair of wins at home, 63-45 against West Carroll on Friday, December 4, and 50-10 against Humboldt on Saturday, December 5.
Tuesday’s game against Liberty proved to be Middleton’s toughest challenge. The Lady Tigers led early in the game and had a three-point advantage after one period, and a six point lead at halftime. Liberty fought their way back in the game and actually held a one point lead after the third period. Middleton took back the momentum in the final period, and walked away with a five-point 58-53 win.
Sequoya Warren led all scorers with 23 points including two 3 pointers. Chelsey Perry added 17 points in the win.
“Sequoya had a really big night for us,” Middleton Head Coach James Burkley said.
On Friday, Middleton returned home to face West Carroll. The two teams started off evenly matched and Middleton led by only two-points after the first period. That is when the Tigers took control, and finished the half with a 14 point lead, increasing that lead to 30 points after the third period. Middleton gave their starters a rest in the final period, and West Carroll was able to regain some lost ground, but nowhere near enough, as the Lady Tigers ended the game with an 18 point 63-45 win.
“We jumped out to a big lead early, and I was able to give my bench some quality playing time in the second half,” Burkley said.
Chelsey Perry led Middleton with 17 points, followed by Dakedra Mason with 16 points and Alexis Pledge with 11 points.
Things only got easier for Middleton on Saturday, when the Lady Tigers easily took care of Humboldt 50-10. The game was over with before it even got started. Middleton led 25-0 after one period. They improved that lead to 26 points at half time, 33 points after the third period, and 40 points by the end of the game for the 50-10 win.
“We put them away early, and once again our bench was able to get some quality playing time,” Burkley said.
Dakedra Mason led the way with 15 points, followed by Chelsea Perry with 11 points.
The Middleton Ladies are now 6-0 for the season, and have won their last 41 games.
The Middleton boys did not fare quite so well last week, losing to Liberty 64-59 on the road on Tuesday, before winning a pair of games at home, getting an easy 83-33 win over West Carroll on Friday night, followed by a heart stopping 78-75 win over Humboldt on Saturday.
