Middleton moving forward on natural gas line expansion
Mayor Jackie Cox updated the Middleton Board of Aldermen on Middleton’s natural gas line expansion which is now moving toward the construction phase. Material and construction bids were opened on Thursday, October 22. Meter and regulator station bids are scheduled for opening on October 29. The project is being funded by a recently completed bond issue.
Several confiscated and surplus guns are in possession of the Police Department. They were recently offered for sale, however no bids were received. The board made a decision to sell them at public auction following the Lion’s Club Spaghetti Supper on November 6 at the Community Center. Don Mathers is the licensed gun dealer handling the actual sales. Johnny Lanier has donated his time as auctioneer. Vice-mayor Jimmy Simpson will check regulations to be sure Lanier is not required to be licensed also.
Fire Chief, Tommy Seever, reported options available for grants to purchase a new fire truck. Seever is going to have tires on all four of the Fire Department’s trucks inspected by a certified tire technician to ascertain they are up to the standards required by state regulations. Alderman Doug Henderson will provide Seever with a hard copy of regulations as they pertain to Middleton’s Volunteer Fire Department. Mayor Cox requested a key to the fire station be made available at City Hall.
The board has been considering resolution 2016-01 which pertains to physical exams for the members of the police department. On a motion by Doug Henderson, the board suspended consideration until language of the resolution could be reviewed by City Attorney, Tom Minor.
The board also tabled consideration of personnel and vehicle policy changes pending review by Minor.
