The City of Bolivar received Main Street Certification from the State of Tennessee last week and joins 28 other cities/communities in the state certification program.

Bolivar achieves Main Street recognition

Bolivar has achieved Main Street Certification and joins 28 other Tennessee Main Street communities certified through the state’s downtown revitalization program and accredited by the National Main Street Center.
“We congratulate these communities for the efforts they are putting into revitalizing their downtown commercial districts,” Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd said. “The vitality of the downtown core reflects on the entire community and offers economic opportunity, and we look forward to working with these communities as they continue their hard work.”
Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens said the city being certified as a Main Street community is an honor.
“We are proud to be a part of the Main Street program and having visited a lot of these cities myself, I realize how important that this is to our town,” Stevens said.  “It’s wonderful. We’ve dreamed about this for a long time.”
City officials were joined by state officials, including State Representative Johnny Shaw, to celebrate the occasion and learn more about the certification.
“The State of Tennessee is going to partner with you if you are willing to help yourself and if we are willing to invest in ourselves then the state will help you,” Shaw said. “It starts with us. We have got to partner with each other and that’s going to require some investment on our part. This is a great thing for Bolivar.”
